Bible Stories About Victory Over Enemies

The Story

The Bible stories about victory over enemies can be explained using the biblical story of the battle between David and Goliath according to 1st Samuel chapter 17.

David is the son of Jesse from Bethlehem in Judah.

There existed an ongoing war between the Philistines and the Israelites.

A man named Goliath came out to represent the Philistines in the war field.

Goliath has been a great warrior with so many recorded victories.

He came out and shouted to the Israelites and said, ” You are the servant of Soul and I’m a Philistine, choose a man to fight me and if he is lucky enough to kill me we will be your servants. In the same way, if I overpowered and killed him, you would become our servants.

The Israelites were left in fear and trembling looking at Goliath’s appearance together with his recorded victories.

David is the youngest son of Jesse, his three eldest brothers by the name Eliab, Abinadab, and Shammah had followed Soul to the war.

David was with his father taking care of his father’s sheep at Bethlehem.

David’s father gave him some gift items and instructed him to go and see how his three brothers were doing in the war camp and return with assurance of victory.

David left as his father instructed him and upon arriving at the war camp, behold it was when the army were shouting for the commencement of war.

He went straight to his brothers asking them about their wellbeing. It was at this time that Goliath came out again to brag about the war.

David overheard the Israelites discussing the king’s promises to anyone who would fight and kill Goliath.

There were these three prominent promises from the King.

I will give great wealth to anyone who will fight and kill Goliath to save the Israelites from shame and disgrace.

I will give out my daughter to him in marriage.

I will exclude his family from paying taxes in Israel.

Even though David’s eldest brother, Eliab, angrily responded to David when he saw him speaking with them about the war.

David maintained his intentions to fight and win Goliath.

David’s courage and determination to fight Goliath were recorded and reported to Saul.

Saul sent for David and he assured him of his ability to overpower and kill Goliath.

Soul, comparing David’s small stature to the tall and huge warrior, Goliath, insists that David is only a small boy and cannot be able to fight Goliath.

David replied Soul in wisdom and great assurance of victory over Goliath.

He said.

I have been keeping my father’s sheep and I have defended and rescued my father’s sheep from the lion’s mouth and killed it, I have killed both lion and bear.

I will kill this uncircumcised philistine in the same way I killed the lion and the bear.

The Lord who rescued me from lion and bear will also rescue me from this uncircumcised Philistine.

Saul wishes David well and gets him dressed for the battle even though David later rejects wearing the war dress because he is not used to it.

He went straight to the warfield with 5 stones he got from the stream while also holding his sling in his hand.

He fearlessly approaches Goliath. Goliath questioned David, why did you approach me with a stick as if I am a dog?

I will feed birds and wild animals with your flesh.

David replied to the Philistine, you have come to fight me with a sword, a spear, and a javelin but I am here to fight you in the name of the Lord Almighty, the God of Israel whom you defied. I know that God will deliver me from your hands and I will kill and cut off your head and I will also give your body to birds and wild animals so that people will know that there is God in Israel.

When the Philistine moved closer to attack David, he brought out a stone from his bag, he quickly slung it hitting Goliath on his forehead.

Goliath fell,  David ran over him, collected his sword, and cut off his head.

All the Philistines ran away upon seeing that their warrior had died in the hands of David.

David finally took Goliath’s head to Jerusalem and put his weapon in his tent.

Thank you for reading this Bible story about victory over enemies using David and Goliath war stories in the Bible according to 1st Samuel chapter 17.

Lesson Learned

The lesson from the biblical story of David and Goliath’s war and victory indicates that with God all things are possible to those that believe.

David never considered worldly considerations in terms of victory over enemies.

He mostly believed in the God of Israel and what God can do, he was fearless because of his faith in God and so he became victorious over the giant Goliath.

I will advise we use prayer, faith, and determination to win over every enemy surrounding our lives ignoring worldly consideration and focusing mostly on the Almighty God.
